Heat lingers in parts of southern Ontario. The calendar might still say spring but it feels more like summer. The heat hangs on as temperatures are reaching 30 degrees, feeling closer to 35 with the humidity. There’s also a risk for widespread, non-severe thunderstorms through the afternoon and evening hours. Sunday’s heat was accompanied by smog advisories. A smog advisory has been issued today. The literal meaning of smog is smoke and fog. Smog is brown haze that usually hangs over urban areas on warm days when there’s little wind. It’s created when things like cars and factories emit pollutants into the atmosphere. During these advisories, people are encouraged to conserve any way they can in order to reduce the amount of additional pollutants. Check out The Weather Network to see if smog advisories have been issued in your area. How long will the heat hang on?
