Wacky Wednesday features a weird phenomenon from earlier in the month. Tornadoes are rare in New York. On September 8th at least one tornado struck the outer edges of New York City. Residents were startled thinking of twisters as a Midwestern phenomenon. CNN reported a waterspout with winds up to 70 mph churned onshore and turned into a tornado as it hit Breezy Point. It was crazy with damage and power lines down. There were no injuries from the twister. Amateur video captured the images. You just have to see it.

Yesterday marked three years since the deadly tornado outbreak hit southern Ontario. As many as 18 tornadoes touched down and two F2 tornadoes struck Vaughn, Ontario. It was a tragic and destructive day. The Weather Network reported on one of the biggest one day tornado outbreaks in Canadian history. It was a day to remember.

It’s been one year since the tornado in Goderich, Ontario. On August 21st, 2011, an F3 tornado touched down in the town. There were several injuries and one death. The twister has been considered the strongest tornado to hit Ontario in the last 15 years. One year later, the community continues to rebuild with help from people all across the country. Every summer tornadoes rip across the American Plains and Canadian Prairies. Oddly this year Canada has more July tornadoes than the USFreight train tornadoes can be scary and awesome. The Wild Chronicles are featured on National Geographic. Tornadoes and lightning are a deadly combination. Do you want to see extreme weather? The chronicles set in Sioux City, Iowa might get you talking. Two years ago during tornado season, a chaser caught stunning footage of twisters and lightning. The rare video will get you talking about crazy weather. You just have to see it.

Saskatchewan usually sees about 12 tornadoes a year. On July 25th, people in Saskatchewan were buzzing about the high number of tornadoes confirmed by Environment Canada. On July 24th, it was confirmed that five twisters touched down. Two separate tornadoes passed near Balgonie, Saskatchewan last week.

The Prairies have seen a stormy summer so far. Yesterday, a tornado was reported to have touched down in Alberta. The unsettled weather will continue to affect the western provinces today and tonight. Brian Dillon is a meteorologist at The Weather Network. He says “it’s important to remember that every severe thunderstorm has the potential to create a tornado.” There’s been a ton of severe weather in Saskatchewan. Why so many tornadoes in July? Still shocked! Last week, several strange videos flooded YouTube. Poland was struck by tornadoes on July 15th and the twisters proved deadly. A freak tornado ripped through northern Poland causing one death and ten injuries. Tornadoes are uncommon in the summer, especially when the tornadoes are particularly bad. Reuters reported on the tornadoes that shocked Poland. There’s already been some weird weather lately in Europe. The UK has seen extensive flooding. Thunderstorms have been ripping through southern Ontario today. Some factors include the heat and humidity. Saskatchewan has been dealing with tornadoes, thunderstorms and hail lately. Severe weather tracked through the Prairies over the Canada Day long weekend. It’s been scary weather in areas of the Prairies that’s been creating news headlines across the country. Environment Canada received “500 tornado reports in Saskatchewan” last week.

Two areas of low pressure will cause storms in the Prairies today. Get ready for the rollercoaster to continue because “storms are set to push through the Prairies.” There’s a risk of a thunderstorm tonight in Regina. Debby is stealing attention from a non-active southern Ontario. Tropical Storm Debby is causing major flooding and even tornadoes in Florida. Across Canada, severe weather has been hitting southern Saskatchewan. The flood situation continues in parts of BC. Southern Ontario has been dealing with a nice day. Oakville, Ontario was clear and cool for most of the day.

The calm weather in Ontario is shifting attention south of the border into Florida. The Weather Network is watching a state of emergency very closely. Tropical Storm Debby is a lingering system. It’s also a slow-moving system and far from done in terms of damage. According to severe weather expert Henry Margusity, “Dry air mixing in aloft, combined with wind shear and low-level tropical moisture, will continue to favor the formation of thunderstorms with tornadoes and straight-line wind gusts through Wednesday.” If you’re planning a trip to Florida, stay informed.
