Okay, sometimes extreme weather is a little too hard to handle. It appears to be the case in parts of southern Ontario. And when you think of southern Ontario, you think of Toronto. News video from The Globe and Mail reports how subways were disrupted as Toronto’s Union Station flooded. Water and sewage waste are to blame for backing up into the track level of the subway platforms.

Flooding at Union Station caused evacuations and wide-spread traffic delays. The Weather Network viewers posted videos of the chaos. Awful weather can do awful things to major arteries of Toronto. Heavily populated areas are vulnerable to uncontrollable amounts of rainfall.

Weather presenter Chris Mei was reporting live from Union Station Friday afternoon. He described the weather conditions as “cold and windy.” Wind gusts of up to 71 km/h were reported across the GTA Friday afternoon. But the major story is the rain. When Front Street closes, you know it is major news. It’s the kind of problem you don’t see in rural communities. Statistics indicate about 38 mm of rain fell on Toronto by 5 p.m. Friday — close to the 44 mm of rain the city saw during the entire month of May.

This same system is bringing up to 80 mm of rain to parts of Quebec for today.

Southern Ontario is getting much-needed rain. Okay, maybe copious amounts!
