The City of Prince George declared a local state of emergency last week after heavy rains and an above average snowpack led to high water levels across the region. On the other side of the border, a portion of the Alaska Highway was shut down last weekend. On Tuesday, the state of emergency was downgraded to an evacuation alert. According to The Weather Network, “the BC River Forecast Centre says water levels have receded, but the significant snowpack could continue to cause problems as it begins to melt throughout the month of June.” As a result, people are urged to stay away from riverbanks. Flooding has been plaguing the region.

Heavy rain has produced county-wide flooding in several Florida counties. Floodwaters from torrential rains damaged homes and closed roads throughout the Florida Panhandle. The situation should improve. In a related story, “Florida teens escaped drowning” after making a dangerous wrong turn into an overflowing canal. The young driver mistook the canal for a parking lot during a storm that soaked North Florida last week.

Heavy rain continued to flood several provinces in Thailand. In an attempt to improve flood prevention, an aerial survey was conducted above a designated water retention area in central Sing Buri province. On Monday, the Thai Prime Minister began a four-day flood prevention inspection trip. The Telegraph reported yesterday that downpours have returned. The European monsoon has wreaked havoc in parts of Britain. The Environment Agency warned households in the west to be prepared as the Met Office issued another weather warning for heavy rain yesterday. Extremely wet conditions will continue or worsen.
