Monarch butterflies are thought to be the only species of butterfly that migrates between a summer habitat and a winter habitat. Scientists believe that the changes in daylight and temperature at the end of summer signal it is time to move. The Monarch is considered to be one of the largest Canadian butterflies. They are indigenous to Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Central and South America.

Summer is fast approaching and monarch watching might be something Canadians are talking about. Point Pelee Natonal Park is a temporary home to thousands of the migrating winged insects. Why Point Pelee? The Great Lakes are a significant barrier to their migration. As they move south, they search for shorter ways across the lake and the Pelee peninsula provides a fantastic start!
