The Dust Bowl: Parts of west and southwest America had bouts of very dry summers, and high winds. A lack of good soil caused waves of dust to fly around. This ruined crops and farmers couldn’t pay bills. The agricultural depression added to the industrial depression.

What were Okies? They were migrant workers from Oklahoma and other states in the Dust Bowl. The term Okies originally referred to people from Oklahoma, but it was related to migrant farmers from the Dust Bowl.

It’s not fun to think about, but what if the ecological devastation in the 1930s happens again? This July in Winnipeg, Manitoba it was the second hottest on record since record keeping began in 1872. The only month hotter on record occurred in 1936.
